Tips Before Asking for a Quote
What information do we need before quoting your project?
We understand you’re busy and need your quote quickly! As Underground Service Locators in Sydney, we’re also under pressure to deliver fast. To help us respond quickly, please provide the following details:

3. When are you planning to start the work?
- Is it a week from now? Or is it next year?
- What is the timeframe? (The time frame lets us know if we are in a position to fulfil your requirements or for us to let you know straight up if we can’t make due to prior commitments. It saves us from wasting your time and ours. Again, we know how valuable your time is.)
4. When are you working?
Provide specific details to help us cover all bases. Here are some examples of what we love to see in a quote request:
- Exact street address
- You would be amazed how many RFQs we get, and it says we’re planning excavation work along Parramatta Rd. I don’t know if you know this, but Parramatta Rd runs for about 23 km. It also has some sections of very intense underground services, as well as parts with not too intense underground services.
- Aerial images highlighting the project site using images from Nearmap or Google Maps, marked with the scope of work.
- It doesn’t have to be fancy. We get all sorts of markups, ranging from hand-drawn with pen or marker to CAD files. This helps us get an idea of the area you need to be covered quickly and accurately. We know what needs to be covered and what you don’t need to worry about. We can also get on to the DBYD plan acquisition asap.
- Current DBYB plans covering scope of work
- Dial Before You Dig is essential in New South Wales. Knowing which services are present in your work area allows us to prepare accordingly. We also conduct our own DBYD requests, which require 48 hours for a response.
- Design drawings and existing plans covering the scope of work

Providing design plans is crucial. The depth of your work (e.g., trenching vs. road resurfacing) significantly affects our approach to locating services. If you provide the design, it helps us understand the lengths we need to go to complete our part of the works.
For example, the difference of the locating for trenching 1.4 metres deep is a little different to locating for road resurfacing at 200 mm. Many deep services such as storm water and sewer would not need to be investigated now need to be looked at with this deep trenching.
By giving us detailed information, you not only ensure a fair quote but also confirm that we fully understand your project, enabling us to strategise the best solution.
